Interview preparation
Prepare for the conversation behind the technicals.
Strong candidates connect technical judgment, commercial context, and a credible reason for making the move. Rehearse the structure—not a script.
The outcome
A compact interview story bank, technical plan, and question set tailored to the team.
Build a six-story bank
Prepare examples that cover judgment, ownership, teamwork, conflict, failure, and learning. Each story should make your role and decision process unmistakable.
- Context: only what the interviewer needs
- Objective: the decision or outcome you owned
- Action: what you personally did and why
- Result: measurable outcome and what you learned
Practice technicals in context
Memorization is not enough. Explain assumptions, tradeoffs, sensitivities, and how an answer would change with new information. The exact technical bar depends on role and seniority.
Make the move coherent
Your answer to “why now?” should connect what you learned, what you want more of, and why this team can provide it. Avoid criticizing an employer or pretending the role is your lifelong destiny.
Interview the employer
A strong process gives you enough information to evaluate the work. Ask who makes decisions, how the team wins mandates or clients, what success looks like, why the seat is open, and what has surprised recent hires.
